I made a recent Woot.com purchase of this headset simply for the fact that it was a Xbox 360 accessory and it was very, very inexpensive. It was so cheap, at a price of $3.99, that I felt the need to buy two just to justify the $5.00 shipping. I don’t think I even stopped to really read the description or even the picture.

I eventually received both headsets, or this article obviously would not exist and you would not be reading it. Upon opening the box I became like a kid at the candy store at Christmas time in Disney Land/World. I lifted the hefty packages out of the box, I do mean hefty as these seem to be very durable, and proceeded to parade my goodies around the house whenever a room-mate arrived home.

Note: If I had actually researched the product before buying, I would have discovered that these are made to replicate the feel of being on the sidelines of an official NFL Football game. Do I care though? No! Although I do enjoy watching football, I do enjoy playing the official NFL video game also known as Madden. I am in fact liable to de-brand the headset of its NFL and EA Sports stickers because I certainly don’t want to be in THAT game.

So the headset itself is durable feeling as it is very well built. The earpiece cups the ear providing an exceptional feel. The top and side padding are also very comfortable. I myself did not feel like the headset was too tight, but I have now seen Amazon reviews of those who did.

The big question, How well does it work? Exceptionally Well, Thank you for asking. The headset seems to be powered, seeing that it plugs into the 360 controller via a blade connectors, and had a quick switch for the mute and nice volume control. This does make the headset have a wide range of volume and to be honest, I did not have to crank mine to max what-so-ever. The cupping of the headset provides less audio leakage and provides more of it directly into my ear which also may attribute to the excellent volume control.

The audio cable that plugs into the blade dongle may occasionally start to come loose, as I have also found on regular headsets, and may crackle when rotate as lots of other things do. An additional item to note is that during my research (admittedly after my purchase) I found that the mic seems to be noise canceling. Needless to say, BONUS!

This was a great headset purchase and can still be found for cheap around the ‘net if you’d like one yourself. My final words are “A+++ Purchase, Would buy again!”

I’m not sure why everyone is so impressed by Reach, but I’ll do my best to cover it fairly.

Controls:

The controls are very simplified for this. However I had major difficulty controlling it with my left hand. I would zig zag all over the place and miss my intended target. My solution to this was to use only my right hand. This made me steadier and precise. Keeping a firm grip seems to be the key to success with this.

Appearance:

I have to admit that fresh out of the case, it looks very, very shiny. However, the colors seem a little drab. The edges are nice and rounded out though to give a great overall effect. I could use something with a little more color to it though, they really stayed with some basics on this one.

Performance:

This is a sleek and well designed product. The people that made this really know the right angles to get things done. Overall, it’s hard to find something that really fits the niche that this was designed for. It’s nice that I control how fast it goes. Really, all the performance depends on me. One quick note here, you do have to have the proper accessories for this to really work. A quick trip back to the store will set you right.

Features:

Rapidly charges 2 PS3 controllers simultaneously

Store and charge your controllers in one place

Includes 2 USB charge adaptors for quick and convenient use

Plug into any wall outlet or place conveniently in an entertainment center

Powered by a standard wall plug; no USB port required

Compact design

Keep your controllers fully charged, organized and ready for use

Pros:

USB adapters stay firmly on the controller

USB adapters are clear and allow the controller number indicator light to be seen through it

Charger ac/dc adapter is removable (For whatever purpose that may have)

Cons:

Indicator lights are extremely bright

Extremely bright indicator lights stay on even while no controllers are charging

So this charger does everything it says it does. The USB adapter they have fits very nicely into the port and is fitted to the curve of the controller. I was surprised that it did not feel loose at all when it was plugged in. This is much, much better than plugging into the PS3 itself. I would say that this device is most definitely worth its price, which itself is an added bonus!

Features:

Drop-in design allows for easy and rapid recharging of wireless controllers

2 custom NiMH rechargeable batteries supply up to 25 hours of play time

Rapid recharge base stores two wireless controllers

Plugs into any wall outlet for a faster charge than USB

LED charge indicator lights

Design matches the décor of the Xbox 360 console and controllers

Pros:

Setting the controllers in is really easy.

Indicator lights display whether your controller is charging or fully charged with different colors

Indicator lights do not stay lit when controllers are not on base

2 hour charge time per controller

Cons:

Doesn’t allow for battery only charging, needs to have battery in a controller

Bright indicator lights (only bad if you like dark rooms or don’t have an out of the way spot for it)

4 hour charge time for 2 controllers, wish it would charge one and then the other.

The pros for this device really do out-weigh the cons. If you’ve got two controllers that need charging, this is a great way to always keep them ready to go. I really, really appreciate the fact that the indicator lights don’t stay lit all the time. During charging the lights can be bright, so if I were a person who preferred a darker room I would place this somewhere where the lights wouldn’t be intrusive. You are almost better of charging one controller first, and then the other controller. Sure, it is still 4 hours total charge time, but at least 1 would be ready after 2 hours. Over all though, this is a great charger and I feel that is comes at a great price as well.

I made a decision a couple weekends ago that I would finally pull a title that I have not played yet off my shelves of games and pop it in. I settled on the choice of Enchanted Arms for the Xbox 360.

When I started, I didn’t know much about Enchanted Arms. I had traded for it a while ago on a whim. I did know that it was an RPG and from what I had seen about it, to me it seemed very similar to Final Fantasy. (Or at least what I associate Final Fantasy to be like since I have never actually played it myself.)

I was really confused at the start of the game. The opening scene is actually a scene that takes place a few hours later into the game, where the main character Atsuma and his friends are in their first battle against the boss of the game. If you hadn’t read the manual, you wouldn’t know how to control the battle. The tutorial for battles is very soon after this, so I would imagine many people would also be confused. Even worse is the fact that you can continue to attack turn after turn and nothing will happen. I’m not sure if the cut-scene activates after you use all the characters powers up or if it was time based. I did something different to continue the game. Instead of controlling my characters, I selected the boss character and use her to defeat my characters. This is something that you cannot do in regular battle so I have no idea why the developer decided to do it this way. Especially when there is no prompting to do so!! How many people end up stuck and frustrated at this point?

The game play seems pretty easy. However, it moves very slow, so if you were expecting something that you could knock out in a few hours, this doesn’t seem to be the kind of game you would want. The basic button in this game is the A button and it does everything from climb ladders to activate anything that requires activation. In fact, I became very tired of being told how to do something when it was always ended up being the A button. Battles movements are easy to manage. First you are able to move the characters you have in your party around and then select their attacks one by one. This is all done on a grid and only certain movements are available depending on where they are at or who is near them. Also, you’ll want to plan these movements depending on attack range.

Lastly about combat, co-ordinate your movements as any buffs will be done before the next character moves so you will have a chance to buff them before them move in for their attack. Did you move somebody and then realize after seeing another character’s attack that a different move would be better? No worries, your movements and attacks are not finalized until you end your turn. You can undo previous selections and start over if you choose to. Also, don’t forget some of the best options available to you. You can choose to run in case your opponents are much stronger than you or if your characters are low on health. Also, you can choose Auto, which allows the computer to pick your moves for you. I prefer to select my attacks myself, but the computer does an OK job in case you aren’t feeling up to the task.

The story itself seem very linear. There is no room to waver outside the pre-drawn lines of it. This is not an open world game and it shows that heavily. While I’m not saying the story is bad, as it certainly has its highlights and twists, but I always like more freedom. Atsuma is one of your typical heroes that has a power he can’t control and needs to learn to use it. This always makes for a good story line because it brings the hero to the beginner player’s level and allows the player to grow with them.

The graphics are decent. So far I haven’t noticed anything that seems out of place or an eyesore. It certainly doesn’t display anything close to the max performance of the 360. However, its good enough to keep me engaged in everything.

Over all, I’ve played for roughly 12 hours and I don’t think I am anywhere near close to even halfway. This game is great for those just starting out playing RPG style games. It doesn’t have all the nuances or the difficulty I would expect in Final Fantasy. Also, when I play, 30 minutes of playing feels like 5 so this is definitely a game I could keep playing for a while. I highly recommend it if you are looking for an RPG, but haven’t played one before.

For a while now, I’ve been getting my anime fix from HULU. Netflix is still my main choice for getting them delivered, but between discs I jump online to have the juicy animation streamed directly into my brain. (Well almost!)

This week’s feature is Buso Renkin, an anime that was created from a manga of the same name. Buso Renkin is also called Armored Alchemist, which is what the show is about. It is all centered around Kazuki Muto, who is an average high school student until his is killed by a homunculus. Homunculus are one of the two types of alchemy and are evil, human devouring creatures. The other type is an alchemist warrior who uses the buso renkin devices to gain a more temporary ability and destroy the homunculus.

The problem for Kazuki is that a buso renkin is implanted in his chest to keep him alive and also creating a reason for him to become and stay an alchemist warrior. Eventually it turns out that his buso renkin is one of three that were converted into another type of buso renkin, and this eventually causes problems.

The story in itself is great, though I never read the manga so I do not know how true to the story it is. The animation is excellent as are the character designs. This is a very engaging anime as I’ve been watching it for the last few months. If you like alchemy, give this a watch.

It was just a few weekends ago that I was down at the mall in Rochester, MN. My girlfriend and I stumbled into an Air Traffic Kites & Games store. We immediately found a game that she had been looking for, but then proceeded to peruse the store some more. After all, who can help it when there are just that many board games and other toys around? It wasn’t too long before I started looking at a game called Redneck Life.

That’s when a voice chimed in from behind me, one of the store employees. He says to me, “It’s like Life; except you don’t start with any money, you gain several step children named Darryl, and the winner is the person with the most teeth left.” “Boy”, I thought, “Sounds like a hoot, I better tell the girl about this.” Next thing you know, we’re walking out of the store with a box in hand.

Let me describe how an average game goes, as we’ve played it with our roommates a few times now. You roll two dice; one red and one blue. This gives you your redneck name. Examples are: Cletus Lee, Billy Bob, Jebediah Lee, etc. Play starts with the person with the largest shoe size. I was very happy with this rule until another person moved in and had bigger feet than me.

You roll around the board and there are several places to stop, just like in regular Life. The stops determine you education level with the dice, up to grade 12, which determines your job. Example, a roll of 5 gave me a 5th grade education and the job as the Ciggy Shack Attendant. Then you end up getting Hitched and House and you can guess that you also roll for you wife’s name as well. Then you get divoriced, then re-married, a quick chance at some lottery money and then the games over.

Wait, don’t leave just yet. There is a lot more to the game as most of the time you will land on the Go Redneckin’ space where you draw a card that make you do stuff. Mostly bad. Like running over my Ciggy Shack and putting me out of work.

Don’t forget about the debt. Nearly everything you do in Redneck Life gives you debt whether it be purchasing a car or house or TV. At the end, if you haven’t paid it all up and are out of money, the rest comes out of your teeth.

I really liked this game, the rules are easy to remember once you’ve played a few times. Better yet is the fact that everyone has enjoyed it so far. Its really fun to get into character and slang your words all the time. You can bet that I give this game my two thumbs up, if not simply for the fact that my girlfriend really liked it as well.
