Well it’s happened, I’ve joined up with my fellow Team Hack-A-day members to collaborate on a new project. I’m officially presenting to you, ahead of schedule, a site that is for geeks, by geeks. What I truly mean to say is that we are going to be like your geeky co-worker, bringing stuff to you that we think you’ll find interesting. Whether it be info about making beer, what games to play, or even about new tech; we’ll be there standing at your cube with our coffee mug saying “Dude, did you hear that you can’t even hold the new iPhones to make calls?” We’ll, you’ll actually have to come find us and you can do so by heading to the Geek Republic. Halo: Reach Headhunter Glitch

One of my fellow Hawty McBloggy Hawty McForums member Rowboat 000 finally finished a montage of his Halo: Reach multi-player beta experience. Besides the fact that ends up being a pretty cool montage, something weird happens at the 44 second mark. During one of his headhunter games, he’s given the option to pick up a skull as if in oddball mode.

Xbox 360 Blur Beta Open To All

That’s right, the Blur beta I was telling you about a few weeks ago is now open to all! Simply head over to the Xbox Live Marketplace listing and click to get it queued up to download to your own 360. The other news is that recently the Blur Beta expanded itself from a level 10 cap to a level 15 cap allowing an expanded look at cars and other power-ups.

Why not take a look for yourself? Blur is being described not only by it’s creators, but also by the people playing it as Mario Cart meets Project Gotham Racing. Of course, it could be they say this because the developer MADE PGR! See for yourself!

Free Xbox Live Avatar Prop – Grill

This is the grill prop that everyone who did the Xbox Live Block Party received. However, the code is pretty universal so why don’t you download it yourself?

-UPDATE- This wouldn’t work for me last night and I suspect it won’t work for many of you either. The code entered just find but when it was downloading it stopped and gave me an error message saying “Couldn’t download grill prop”. Download Lost Planet 2 Demo For Charity

Here’s the deal, Capcom is ready to setup a donation to a charity worth $20,000. The catch, though, is that the demo for Lost Planet 2 needs to be downloaded 1 Million times between Xbox Live and Playstation Network. After it hits the 1 Million mark, an additional $5,000 dollars will be given is another 500,000 downloads are made. User have from yesterday (April 1st) until May 5th in order to make their download count.f

So hey, if you’ve got both systems like I do, why not download the demo on both of them and help reach the goal? It doesn’t sound like a lot, but $25,000 can go a long ways towards helping people out. The proceeds will be given to Music for Relief, a charity started by Linkin Park that helps out with disaster relief.

Nyko Apologized To Me

Just last week I got a little angry that Nyko Lied To Me since they goofed up when I asked them about a pre-order item from BestBuy.com.

Last night I received a direct Twitter message from them stating:

“We have seen your blog post and would like to apologize for the confusion. We were going by BestBuy.com’s description and NOT the SKU number. We should have checked the SKU number, and for that we apologize. Please let me know how we can rectify this situation. ”

All I could say back to them was: @nykotech Thanks for apology, sorry I sounded so angry. BluWave working well. Will review on blog. Still feel bad? Send review products :)

So you see Nyko, I forgive you! There’s really no need to rectify anything. I’m not one of those angry people that demand you send them free crap. I had my moment of rage and now it has passed.

However, if you really do feel bad about it and still want to do something to make it up, I have an idea. I would absolutely love to be sent review products (This goes not just to Nyko but to every company out there :P). It would be a win-win for both of us.

I’ll get cool stuff and put up quality reviews of the products. After all, that is what I’ve done in the past.
(I can dig out some URLs of past reviews I’ve done for Generation: Gamerz if anybody is curious.)

So Who Can We Blame?
Best Buy of course! After all, their crappy info and lack of info started this whole thing!

Nyko Lied To Me

Hi Nyko,

About a month or two ago, I was perusing BestBuy.com for some cheap accessories to add onto my purchase of a new desk chair. I wound up looking through the PS3 section and noticed a curious listing.

NYKO TECHNOLOGIES INC-PS3 REMOTE-83041

The weird part was is that there was another item labeled as being model # 83040. That item was the Nyko BluWave remote. I thought, “Hrmm, that is curious that the model number of a pre-order item is one higher than this model.” I figured maybe Nyko had an improved remote (maybe with an awesome feature of turning on the PS3?) so I took a chance and put in for the pre-order.

Then it happened, I became curious about what it was I was actually going to be buying. So I started “using the Google search engine” (as they like people to say) to find anything I could out about it.

Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

Oh, but wait, the brilliant idea came to me. I would go on Twitter.com and just straight out ASK Nyko what the hell it was that I just pre-ordered for.

…I’m still going to use my new IR remote and program my Harmony to control it, but seriously somebody make a cheap way to turn the damn thing on.

Oh, and BestBuy.com does list it correctly now as a BluWave Ir remote, FYI.

Blur Beta Sign-Up Code and 48 Hour Trial Giveaway

So the Blur beta from Activision and Bizarre Creations has been going swimmingly. I am absolutely floored by this racing game. In fact, I’m surprised that I even like it since I don’t tend to play racing games all that often. I think its the fact that it is easy to get into and has awesome power-ups. Would you like to get in on this too?

Turns out that there are more codes available to the friends of people who already are in the beta. We’ve got a few sign-up codes that will get you into the beta once you register on their site. Don’t forget, the beta also gives you a code for a Xbox Live 48 hour trial.

By the way, I don’t need any of the codes I have for the trials since I am a gold member of XBL. So in addition to giving away beta sign-up keys I will be giving away a few of the trial codes as well.
