For a while now, I’ve been getting my anime fix from HULU. Netflix is still my main choice for getting them delivered, but between discs I jump online to have the juicy animation streamed directly into my brain. (Well almost!)

This week’s feature is Buso Renkin, an anime that was created from a manga of the same name. Buso Renkin is also called Armored Alchemist, which is what the show is about. It is all centered around Kazuki Muto, who is an average high school student until his is killed by a homunculus. Homunculus are one of the two types of alchemy and are evil, human devouring creatures. The other type is an alchemist warrior who uses the buso renkin devices to gain a more temporary ability and destroy the homunculus.

The problem for Kazuki is that a buso renkin is implanted in his chest to keep him alive and also creating a reason for him to become and stay an alchemist warrior. Eventually it turns out that his buso renkin is one of three that were converted into another type of buso renkin, and this eventually causes problems.

The story in itself is great, though I never read the manga so I do not know how true to the story it is. The animation is excellent as are the character designs. This is a very engaging anime as I’ve been watching it for the last few months. If you like alchemy, give this a watch.

The last few weeks have been spent watching Ragnorak The Animation. They have to say “The Animation” because yes, there is a video game called Ragnorak and yes, it is based off that game. The story is as such. It is the “same world of Rune-Midgard, yet the progression gets darker. An evil entity called the Dark Lord wants to create chaos in the world with the help of seven crystals that represent the seven ambitions (also known as the Seven Strengths) who sealed him away years ago.” (Wikipedia)
Thus a group is formed consisting of Roan, Yufa, Maya, Takius, Iruga, and Judia. Needless to say that since it is based on an MMORPG, it definitely looks and acts like one with spells being summoned or attacks being spoken as they are used. I won’t spell out the entire story line as the Wikipedia link is there for just that. However, if you want to watch something that has a video game feel with decent animation and an quest filled story line; this is the one to watch.
